As Euro 2012 kicks off with Poland vs. Greece this evening, it got us thinking about our Football movie…

Tim & Moby giving a run down of the beautiful game? Now there’s a topic you can enjoy and learn from whether you’re a fact-filled Match of the Day pundit, or you can’t tell the difference between a header and a handball.

And we’re going to make our Football topic FREE for England match days, quarter-final match days, semi-final match days and the final.

    Winning.

In the movie, Tim lays out the basic facts that all football enthusiasts should know, from the size of the field, to the number of players, to the names of the different positions. You’ll find out why only goalkeepers are allowed to touch the ball with their hands, and why referees penalise players with yellow and red cards. And how about the offside rule? Tim & Moby have it covered. Don’t forget the quiz and FYI too.

3 Football topic activities to try:

    1. If you think you know it all, test yourself with the Quiz before watching the movie. How did you do? 10/10?
    2. Write or draw your own explanation of the offside rule and see how it compares to Tim’s explanation in the movie
    3. Read the Sports section of the FYI to learn some interesting facts about Sheffield FC. Can you write a short history of your favourite club?

So strap on your shinguards, lace up your boots, and pop these Euro 2012 dates in your diary:

Monday 11th June – England vs. France

Friday 15th June – England vs. Sweden

Tuesday 19th June – England vs. Ukraine

    Thursday 21st June – Winner Group A vs. Runner-up Group B

    Friday 22nd June – Winner Group B vs. Runner-up Group A

    Saturday 23rd June – Winner Group C vs. Runner-up Group D

    Sunday 24th June – Winner Group D vs. Runner-up Group C

Wednesday 27th June – Winner Quarter Final 1 vs. Winner Quarter Final 3

Thursday 28th June – Winner Quarter Final 2 vs. Winner Quarter Final 4

    Sunday 1st July - Euro 2012 FINAL!

You probably won’t be surprised to hear we’ve got a rather lengthy movie to-do list so when it comes to deciding what to produce next it can be a tough decision. And when it comes to producing exclusive UK movies, we find it especially hard.

So far we’ve made Bonfire Night, The Troubles, and Emergency 999 so when we got an email from Gail we saw it as a golden opportunity to create another of our fantastic exclusive UK movies.

Ever wondered how the United Kingdom became, well, united? Wonder no longer!

In a brand new UK exclusive topic we cover the entire History of the UK…in just six minutes.

    Yes, we’re that good.

You’ll find out how the British Isles moved from being populated by independent tribes to becoming the UK. Tim & Moby talk about invasions by Vikings, Romans, and Normans as well as key historical figures such as William the Conqueror, Edward I, and James I.

Finally, find out how Wales, Scotland and Ireland came to be under English rule and what the UK looks like today! 4 Nations, 4 Histories, 4 Cultures – 1 National Government.

Have a read of our fact-packed FYI to learn about devolution, myths and legends, bizarre laws and customs, and did you know that there are 6 times as many people per sq km in England as there are in Scotland?

We’ve also worked hard to produce an outstanding set of activities for this topic too.
