We’d like to let you into a well kept secret. This is a “King Moby” badge.
They are the rarest of all Tim & Moby badges and are only presented to people who go above and beyond the call of duty for BrainPOP UK. They are not freebies – they are issued very rarely.
But we issued one today. To John McLear, of Primary ICT Specialists, home of a number of wonderful products for primary schools including:
- Primary Pad (web-based word processor which promotes collaborative learning)
- Primary blogger (free blog service created for primary school teachers and pupils)
- Primary Games Arena (a website providing a huge collection of educational games for children to use at home or school)
…and many more. Every Primary school should check them out.
So why is he now one the select few to be in receipt of a King Moby?
John volunteered to create a POPbox WordPress plugin for us. The widget allows anyone with a self hosted WordPress blog to add our featured movie POPbox into a sidebar, without having to touch any code themselves. It even allows you to pick the size of the POPbox in pixels, from 200px up to 350px.
It took time, effort and skill to make the widget, with no expectation of reward, and he coded and tested it on his own time. Why? Maybe as a technical exercise; maybe just because it was a cool and interesting thing to do.
But most of all he did it because he’s a strong advocate for technology in the classroom. And if he can help schools deliver ICT in a seamless and exciting way, he’ll take that chance.
That’s why he earned a King Moby.
